Historic Bell Ceremony Set for 31 May

UPDATE!

THIS EVENT IS POSTPONED DUE TO LOCKDOWN.  IT WILL HAPPEN WHEN IT IS SAFE AGAIN.

By Liam Griffin

Friends of Kilbride have in our care the 1798 bell from Historic Kilbride. On Sunday 31 of May, Historic Kilbride will host a ceremonial public casting of a replica of that bell.

The event will involve the erection of a furnace, a moulding of the 1798 bell being made in wax, and then suitable molten metal being poured into the mould. Various experts will be on site to ensure the work is carried out safely and competently.

We are manufacturing a replica bell so that we can allow our visitors to see and handle the replica, but not put the priceless , irreplaceable 1798 bell at risk.

We are inviting members of the public, and hope to create a family, “carnival atmosphere” whilst ensuring the event is respectful, in keeping with the nature of the site and the aims and objectives of our charity.
